Built in 1894 by the Hotz
Family, John Hotz (pronounced huts) combined a storefront property,
which was a meat market, and a home for his family. Architectural details
include 14-foot ceilings, transom windows, pocket doors, and
detailed molding and woodwork throughout the home.
Artwork left in
the house includes an original sketch of the home by
local artist, Roscoe Misselhorn, as well
as an oil painting of the Hotz’s youngest daughter.
The house stayed in the Hotz family for 70 years before
being sold. Several small businesses have operated within its walls,
including an electrical repair shop, insurance company, gift shop,
and paint and decorating store.
Jason and Kelly Wissehr purchased the home in April
2004, making them the fifth owners of this 114 year-old house. It had been divided into four residential apartments. They remodeled two of the
bedrooms and a bathroom for their personal use and converted the
apartment on the ground floor, originally the meat market, into a
large eat-in kitchen and office area. The remaining two apartments
have been renovated and furnished as luxury suites.
